Being a responsible business is important to Gateley, with a focus on the wellbeing of our people as well as being a force for good in society and within the communities in which we operate. Each year, we publish an annual Responsible Business report which sets out new internal targets to move the business forward and keep us aligned with our Responsible Business priorities that support our clients, people, communities, and the environment.

Our strategy is one of diversification and differentiation and our focus is on:

  • Enhancing opportunities to grow organically through partner hires or teams.

  • Geographic expansion and acquisition of businesses offering complementary services.

  • Building out the Group’s Platforms which comprise clusters of complementary group services presenting a broader and more compelling offering.

This strategy will be delivered through:

  • organic growth

  • enhanced cross-selling opportunities from within Gateley Legal and through our complementary professional services businesses

  • entry into new strategic, regional markets

  • the retention of and investment in existing partners and employees and the recruitment of new talent

  • acquisitions of legal and non-legal professional services businesses to expand and enhance our service offering to clients – a broader set of services creates a differentiated and more compelling proposition for new and existing clients

  • the acquisition and retention of talent at all levels – our sharesave scheme ensures all of our employees can acquire shares and participate in the financial success of our business helping to encourage earlier and widespread equity ownership to retain, attract and motivate talent.

Commercial law firm Stephen Gateley & Sons was founded in Birmingham in the 19th century to help forward thinking Victorian’s prosper. Many years later in the 1970s, Gateley joined forces with Bernard Wareing to launch Gateley Wareing & Co starting the growth of our legal services group.
