If you are leaving school and know that university isn’t the right path for you, an apprenticeship may give you the right balance of structured learning with on-the-job training. We offer apprenticeships across Gateley enabling our apprentices to develop a whole range of skills and to grow as individuals; we’re passionate about supporting our apprentices to develop their skills, confidence and networks.

An apprenticeship at Gateley is more than just a route to qualification, it’s a launchpad for a fulfilling career. Whether you’re joining us in legal or our professional consultancy businesses, you’ll be immersed in real work from day one. You’ll spend 80% of your time gaining hands-on experience with one of our specialist teams, and 20% focused on structured study and training. This blend means you’ll build practical skills while working towards a recognised qualification, all without the need for full-time university study.

That could mean stepping into a permanent role at Gateley or progressing onto a higher-level apprenticeship. Either way, you’ll be well-prepared for the journey ahead.

What’s it like to be an apprentice with Gateley?

Starting your career at Gateley as an apprentice means stepping into a forward-thinking, straight-talking environment where your growth is our priority.

We understand that for many, this may be your first experience in a professional setting. That’s why we’ve designed the Gateley Apprentice Development Programme to support you every step of the way. It’s more than just training, it’s a structured journey that builds your confidence, skills and network from day one.

Our development programme is built around three core aims:

  1. Personal and professional growth: You’ll develop essential skills in communication, teamwork, business acumen and problem-solving skills that will serve you throughout your career, no matter your specialism. 
  2. Connection and community: Apprentices from across the Gateley Group come together regularly to share experiences, collaborate and build lasting relationships. This creates a strong cohort identity and a sense of belonging that’s central to our culture.
  3. Progression and retention: We invest in our apprentices because we believe in their potential. Many of our apprentices go on to higher-level qualifications, including solicitor apprenticeships, and secure permanent roles within the business. Our programme is designed to help you thrive and stay.

What will you cover during your apprenticeship?

We have put together a comprehensive skills acquisition programme that will give our apprentices the tools they need to kickstart their apprenticeships with confidence and to support the development of the skills needed to become trusted members of their teams.

Training sessions and workshop topics include:

Apply for one of our vacancies by uploading your CV and telling us a bit about yourself. We’ll review applications and, if you are successful, invite you to the next stage of the process.

Attend an in-person interview

If you are shortlisted at application stage, we’ll invite you to one of our offices where you’ll meet a variety of stakeholders. Your interview may involve a test or exercise, depending on the role you’re applying to, but please don’t worry, we will make sure you are fully prepared beforehand! A second interview may be needed, but this will primarily be so that you are able to meet other members of your prospective team.

We’ll let you know the outcome as soon as possible and if you haven’t been successful, we’ll provide you with feedback on your application and interview.

This section is designed to answer the most common questions you may have about our apprenticeships.

We offer apprenticeships across a variety of specialisms and teams throughout Gateley. These include roles in Legal (such as Paralegal and Solicitor Apprenticeships), property (such as Surveying or Engineering) and business support functions like marketing, HR, finance and IT.

That depends on the apprenticeship you choose. Legal apprentices may start with a Paralegal Apprenticeship and progress to a Solicitor Apprenticeship, which includes completing an LLB and passing the SQE exams. In other areas you will work towards attaining professional accreditations alongside your qualifications such as RICS (surveying), ICE (engineering), AAT (finance) or CIPD (HR) to name a few. Each pathway is designed to support your development and set you up for long-term success.

You’ll apply online by uploading your CV and telling us a bit about yourself. If shortlisted, you’ll may be invited to complete our online interactive assessment, or take part in a video interview, before then attending an in-person interview at one of our offices. Interviews may include a short task or exercise, but we’ll make sure you’re fully prepared beforehand.

You’ll be supported by your team, your line manager, and our early careers team throughout your journey. You’ll also take part in our Apprentice Development Programme, which includes workshops on time management, communication, problem-solving and more. It’s all designed to help you grow personally and professionally.

Many of our apprentices go on to secure permanent roles at Gateley. We’ll talk to you about your next steps as your apprenticeship comes to an end – whether that’s a permanent position or progression onto a higher-level apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship gives you the chance to earn while you learn, gain real-world experience, and avoid student debt. You’ll be part of a forward-thinking business from day one, building your career with confidence and clarity.
